Hi John, I've got a P-15 also, and I noticed the same thing when I bought
mine, the keel looks home-made. It sits over the pin on a simple L-shaped
groove cut into the keel. So being an old farm boy, I realized if it could
fall off, it would. My keel had a hole drilled in it already topsides, on the
arm sticking up out of the keelbox. I put a 4 inch bolt through that, with
hard plastic spacers on both sides, making a kind of mechanical stop. The
bolt is situated so that it doesn't touch anything as you raise and lower the
keel, although it does just sit on the top of the keelbox when the keel is
fully lowered. The weight is carried by the big pivot pin, as it should be,
and the small bolt just keeps it from falling out if it were to come unhooked.
I can give you a more detailed location if you need it. I haven't measured
any of this stuff, the hole was already there.
