The previous owner of my P-19 must have had somewhat of a similar experience
as the cheek block on the keel had about a 1/2" groove in it from the cable
and the cable was frayed with numerous 'meat hooks' from broken strands. I
replaced the cable with 1/4" line, added an eye bolt on the keel to tie off
the line and used the 'good' side of the cheek block on the outside
eliminating the inside piece. It works fine as the line is rated considerably
higher than the weight of the keel.
