You can hang the burgee on the other shroud... This way they do not get
blanketed or drag behind the mainsail...

If I read this right, that would work for the Colors. But for a
burgee, a pig-stick would be better. Same principle but put the
block at the top of the mast. Rig the pigstick similarly to the
description below, but at the bottom so that when hoisted up to
the block, the part of the stick where the burgee attaches sticks
up above the mast. That's more correct, I think: Burgees at the
top of the mast or off a bow staff, Colors 2/3 up the leech of the
main or off a stern staff.
