Friends,

I have found two things about our P19 which are often exhausting to do,
especailly in hot, humid weather. They are winching the boat on the trailer
and winching up the keel. I have recently discovered the smart way to get the
boat on the trailer (without going to an electric winch) is to upgrade the
manual winch to a stronger model with a better gear ratio. Mounting a
stronger and newer one would also greatly lessen any chance of failure when I
am trying to get the boat on the trailer.

Following the same line of thinking, I called Fulton (who made the stock keel
winch on our boat) to ask if there was any way to upgrade the keel winch and
make it easier to get the keel up and down on our P19. "Jason" from Fulton
called me today with the following information.
------------------------------------------------------
Fulton
fulton@fultonperformance.com
(800) 604-9466
Customer Service Rep at (715) 693-1700

K650 - 1:1 ratio; has 600 lb load capacity; has "load lock"; teeth are exposed
[this is the stock winch that was in our P19]

K1051 - 4.1:1 ratio; 1000 lb load; teeth on drum are exposed, therefore some
grease may get rubbed/thrown off; should mount and operate
similarly to K650; $55.58

KX1051 - 4.1:1 ratio; 1000 lb load, teeth on drum are covered, therefore unit is a
bit larger than K1051 and may not fit well in P19; $68.40
---------------
We discussed that prior to ordering, it may be wise to measure around K650
on boat to make sure we have enough space for the K1051 (or KX1051).
Jason can give info on local dealers who can get the winch for you or the
winch can be ordered directly from him at (715) 693-9222.

I usually would wait to share information like this until I have confirmed that
it works myself, but I do not expect to be able to replace our winch until next
winter. This may be helpful to some of you now. If anyone tries it, please pass
along how it works.
