Here's a little tip about using bungees on boat:

Remove the steel hooks from the ends and just use the elastic cords. I
use a hefty pliers to unwind and remove the hooks; but leave the doubled
over termination in place. I use square knots instead of hooks. That
way you're in no danger of "knocking your eye out". You'll be amazed at
how useful they are. I use them to secure the main when lowered, to
fasten the mast to the boat for trailoring, etc. etc.
