I have a length of bungee cord mounted along the length of the boom so that
the cord can be pulled over the sail for furling and hooked on the other
side of the boom. This is illustrated at
<http://songbird.com/py/manyway/mainfurl.gif>.

This has worked very well on both my gunter rig (wooden boom) and lateen
rig (aluminum boom) and should also work on the standard Marconi rigs.
There is nothing to be stored separately and no hooks to snap into your
eye.
