Try replacing the Hanks (proper term), if they are too weak, with
replacements from West Marine. Also, try rigging a jib downhaul (a 1/8"
line tied to the jib halyard shackle, threaded down through the grommets or
hanks, to a block at the tack of the sail, and led back to the cockpit).
This will enable you to pull down the jib if necessary, and secure it.
