well, when you sail through petersburg (halfway between juneau
and ketchikan) give me a call and i'll let you use one of my
slips and i'll give you a tour of town. we only day sail north
out of the 'burg. the next suitable anchorage to the north in
frederick sound is about 30 miles away. we're in fjord country
with lots of squirrelly winds coming down off the glaciers,
ask my forgiving wife about my ability to predict the weather.
we have fairly dramatic tides, plus 24' to minus 4', and with
the islands this can create some substantial currents. i've
recently embarrassed myself right in front of town by raising
full main and lapper, filled them both, and proceeded to sail
backwards against the current, damn, after 16 years i thought
i could read a tide book.
