Greetings,

My experience has been that it has swung up to a point. Kind of is my
unofficial depth gauge. I have also had it swing up temporarily while mowing
a kelp bed. After sufficient drag had built up, the blade tilted enough to
send the green wad to my outboard (which also swung up but with less grace
and more noise.)

Beware, squatting over the centerboard trunk is not where you want to be
when this happens.

The swing path is not like a hing though. I don't secure the blade against a
capsize. Not sure if the swing path would prevent the blade from retracting.
