During the Bosnia sail, a non-potterer checked the centering of my mast by
using the jib halyard. By marking a directly opposite spot on the side rails
on both the port and starboard sides using a set length of the jib halyard,
you can adjust the stays until you have the same length of the jib halyard at
the marks. Kind of like the equal sides of a triangle. This should center the
mast. At that point he said to tighten them evenly and as taught as you can
get them while leaving enough slack to raise the mast onece again. Seemed to
work well.
