When I bought my HMS 18 Sunshine she was a real basket case. All the hardware
was in a bag. I spent several hours a day for three months in the boat. My
wife thought I had left her. The first time I tried to raise the mast was a
disaster. So I started inventing ways to make rigging fast and easy. I built a
tellescoping mast carrier with a roller at the top for sliding the mast aft. I
put quick release pins everywhere I could, forestay, boom vang, mainsheet
sheeves. We had a couple of dry runs at home, then we tried it out at the
ramp. Carol and I had the boat in the water in a little over ten minutes. I
never trailer with the motor on the transom, or the rudder on. A lot of small
things can make a big difference at the launch ramp. I have a slightly
dtfferent system when I am alone. Jerry Barrilleaux P.19 # 48
