Potterers:

15 Oct 1998: Had loverly run on the Potomac R. between Cole`s Pt. and
St. Mary`s R. Wx was delightful, NW at 12 to 20 knots/waves 1 to
2ft/Temp in the 60s. Tacked back & forth across the river, ran before
the wind, beam reachs p&s and close hauled for a first real check on
HA`PENNY; She proved a fine Micro Cruiser or Day Sailer for two.

Unfortunatly. the rudder jumped out of th lower gudgeon on the return
journey, and I was unable to reseat it( waves steep 2ft). We took the
rudder aboard, doused main and lapper, and continued home - 3 miles,
under power.

The trip under power (one hour) was misery as the OB fixed for powering
w/a rudder(stiff to turn); She tends to wander under power steering
alone, especially when poor wind and sea/tide conditions prevail.

BTW: I could not reseat the rudder, in calm water, at the pier. I
having a pintle pin fitted on the upper pintle. The OEM hold fast is not
suitable for rough conditions; had this occured in the mid bay we would
have been a real pickle.

We returned a day early, but hope to be back on the river/bay next week
