Thanks for your comments, Geoff. I feel like I know have a bit of a
handle on the issue. It looks like I'll be going with the three-point
something. You may be right about hull speed, but the comments of
the rest of the group make me think I want to err on the side of over-
powering the beast.
Your notion of a seven-hour motor is not out of the realm of
possibility. The trades can just disappear for days. I have a sailor
friend here who described to me a planned sail to Oahu a couple
years back that turned into exactly what you describe when the
winds completely failed to appear.
