Thanks to everyone for their comments on the engine situation.

Lemme see if I've got this right. Uhh, the Tomatsu 3.5 is the same as
the Nissan, The Mariner 3.3 is the same as the Mercury (and the
same as the 2.5, but with a differnet carb), the Johnson 3.3 is the
same as the Evinrude (and the same as the 2.5, but with a differnet
carb). Uhhh. The specs make me wonder if the little Mariner-Merc
engines are the same as the little Johnson-Evinrude engines. Is that
so?

A company named Marubeni makes the 5, 3.5, 3.3 and 2HP engines for almost
every mfg.

The Merc/Mariner 3.3 is the same identical motor as the Nissan/Tohatsu 3.5.
Down to the bolts. They change the HP number to differentiate the product so
they can claim it's theirs and not someone elses. And... They will swear to
that... Which goes to show some salesmen will say anything... Nissan/Tohatsu,
Merc/Mariner and now even OMC (John/Evin) now buy the 5HP from Marubeni... All
of them are Identical to the 5 from Nissan... However, Nissan now has a 4cycle
5Hp that no one else has yet....

The 2, 2.5, 3, 3.3 and 3.5 are the same motor with more or less power...

The 5HP is a different beast

The 6 and 8 Hp are the same motor with more or less power... However,
Merc/Mariner makes their own and OMC makes their own and do not use
Marubeni...

The Johnson/Evin 3HP and 4Hp twins are made by OMC and not Marubeni... They
are worth looking at as they shake a lot less than the single cylinder
engines... They also enjoy a REVERSE gear...

It gets awfully confusing but I am a nosey dude that pokes inside and under
things before he buys them...

BTW: I think I got it right as I peeked and poked at all of them for a couple
of months before getting the Nissan 8Hp with alternator... Now... How the heck
do I run that power cord to the battery up in the bow of my P19?
