Hi Jeff:
I always though that Mission Bay would be great Pottering - I used to live
in south Mission and would canoe out to the little islands to get away from
the crowds lining the bay shore. As an alternate solution for problem #2,
almost any sailmaker can shorten the foot of the sail to fit the boom - they
just take a hot knife and make a vertical cut close to the bolt rope and
then replace with a new bolt rope. I'd bet that the sail thus modified
would set so much better that performance would improve despite the slightly
reduced area.
