Subject: Use Chain to Remove Hitch

1) Remove the Hitch/Receiver connection pin.

2) Hit the hitch with a sledge hammer side to side, up and down to try
and break free. Spray WD 40 at every location you can get to where there is
an interface between the receiver tube inside wall and the hitch tube
outside wall. Allow to sit for a day to penetrate, hit with sledge hammer
and then spray it some more. Allow it to sit for another day, Hit with
sledge hammer and Spray again. You can try to hit the ball with the sledge
hammer to try and push the hitch out, you will most likely damage the
ball this way. Also you can get a HEAVY LONG chain, attach one end to the
hitch ball. Take the other end (25 FT?) and whip the chain. Some people
may remember that this method was also used to pull axles out of the rear
end of a 57 Chevy. At least OLDSURFDUDE should remember!

3) Wire brush the outside of the hitch tube and the inside of the
receiver tube, visual inspect for defects to the steel that could cause
failure if re-used. If in good enough shape (i.e. "GE"), slather the
hitch and receiver tubes with axle grease and reinstall. Remove the hitch
once a year and re-grease.
