I installed the cockpit drain in my P14, so it is probably not typical of
the newer boats.
I leave the plug out in the cockpit when singlehanding. The outlet has a
rubber flap to prevent back flow, but I did have some water flow in with
three men in the cockpit, weighing down the stern.
