Thanks one and all. I've also been able to talk to someone
who says the gel coat isn't all that big a deal, it's just
a special type of paint you spray on. We'll see.

I'm gonna go with the 600 grit wet/dry and very carefully
sand the name off. Good thing I've got patience. I think
I'm going to need it.

I will probably just put the name on over where the old
one is, they're about the same number of characters and
I can lay out the new one to cover it quite nicely. There
will be some areas that won't be covered, but I'll know
more once I have the old name off and the new one roughed
out. I might go with a colored background as well, a la
a nameboard. That was a good idea from those of you that
suggested that. THANKS!

I don't feel so bad now, now that I know I can get that
name off. Already got the appropriate liquid refreshment
for the gods for the de-naming and naming ceremonies.
