You would lose. My aspirations put me in the neat group, but my lazy habits
thwart me. I end up with one foot in each group. For example, I just did an
elegant job of wiring my boat for an electric outboard. The junction for
the cable connections is behind a transparent Beckson access plate in the
face of a cockpit seat and there are no wires in the cockpit. I used all
Ancor AWG4 marine cable with crimped and soldered lugs. I was definitely in
the neat camp for that project.

But the rest of the boat I describe as having tugboat decor. I thought the
woodgrain contact paper the previous owner put on the inside cabin bulkhead
was tacky so I tried to remove it, but only strips tore off, so it looks
worse than ever. The wooden bulkhead itself is cracking and starting to
delaminate, so it looks like I need to replace the bulkhead, which won't be
too difficult, once I can get a round tuit. With a 31-year-old boat it's
pretty hard to catch up once you get behind the power curve. Tomorrow I
need to get my newly connected 90 lb of batteries lashed down in the cabin
footwell so I can go sailing Saturday. A few months ago I mounted a nice
red-green running light on the bow pulpit. One of these days I might even
run some wires to it.
