Hi
The subject heading was PY sailing in Richmond. The actual
subject was how great sailing is in San Diego.

I once lived in San Diego and went sailing there a few times.
In the autumn I recall the wind coming up at ten in the morning
and blowing til four in the afternoon. I went sailing with a
fellow on his Capri 15 in February and March. The days were
sunny, but we'd basically just bob around near the buoy off
Point Loma for three hours and then go home.

This wind variability was problematic for races. I once went
on a beer can race with the SD Yacht club where we tacked into
a good wind towards the bay bridge then on the return leg,
(after 4pm) there was virtually no wind. So the trip out took
30 minutes, the trip back two hours.

I remember taking sailing lessons in Mission Bay in a lazer,
flipping multiple times in 10MPH winds and freezing my A__ off
until I got a wet suit in August.

Winds haven't been much better here in Texas. I have yet to
go sailing in Frimi where the wind is over 10 MPH. I've been
sailing since July. Good points are the water is warmer in
the summer here, I don't have to compete for space with 2
million other people, there's more vegetation on the shore to
look at.
