I would suggest that several 'hardpoints' are added to the boat for snap
attachment of safety lines. For a start, each crew member should attach (when
necessary) to a separate point thus more than one will be needed. On bigger
boats a jackstay would be rigged allowing the wearer to snap on at any point
and to move along the deck.

My Potter has hardpoints below the companion on the sidewall of the footwell,
below the tiller area above the lazarette [to which the outboard safety line
is attached] and alongside the mast foot on the cabin roof. They are simple
stainless steel hoops fixed through the deck or bulkhead with load spreading
plates beneath fixed with hex nuts. All are suitable sealed with salt-water
resistant Dow Corning-type white paste.

The mast itself would be a poor choice for a securing point. Not only is it,
and its deck fittings, subject to its own loads but think about a dis-masting
!!! Either a huge tangle or no remaining attachment to the boat for yourself.
