I own a 1974 P.14 Mark1, this is the model that came between the gunter
potters and the newer Mark2's. The Mark 1's were made from 1973 to 1975 and
are the rarest of all the American Potters. They are the same as the Gunter
boats, and the hull was from the original plug taken off Stanley Smiths
Potter. The onlf difference is the aluminum mast and boom and loose footed
main. Herb Stewart told me that it wasn't the cost that made him change over.
The aluminum mast made the boat more user friendly. He was getting complaints
on the rigging time on the gunters. And the Mark 1's were a little faster.
However a Mark 1 Potter flying a Mark 2 mainsail is a little rocket.
