I hope this isn't too late, but don't let that scum dry. If it is like
Pacific Ocean scum, it drys to become a very hard lacquer like
substance, very hard to get off. You need to check locally for the best
bottom paint for your area, because it varies by water temperature, salt
or fresh, etc. The bottom paint has copper to poison the critters, but
the other ingredients vary.
