Interesting. How do the lines lead to the winches?
#461 has them on the outside of the toerail, just ABOVE the rubrail. A
later-model P19 manual I have shows them on the outside of the cockpit
coaming, which seems to me like the most intelligent of the (now) 3 places I
know of.

I like the idea of going outside the cockpit coamings. I'd avoid putting
them on the deck proper because they will likely leak a lot and get stepped
on. They fit nicely outside of the toerail like I have, but the lead from
there isn't very fair.

I'm so jealous. In seattle its almost exactly the opposite - 15K in the
summer is fairly rare, but a 10K northerly in the afternoon is fairly
reliable. In the winter, the prevailing winds are more southerly as we see
more low pressure systems move in, and the winds are much higher on average.
But its too cold and wet to sail in those :) I recently bought a genoa from
another member of this list and I know that in the summer it will be my
most-used sail.

I'll probably keep mine where they are, but if I didn't have them there I'd
probably mount them vertically outside the coaming. I definitely recommend
using tracks though instead of a fixed block (in fact, i recently removed my
fixed blocks altogether and epoxied up the holes) since it buys you a lot of
sail shaping ability. My 'genoa' tracks are actually 3/4 or 7/8" sail track.
If I were starting from scratch I'd use real genoa tracks since it will be a
lot easier to find blocks and cars that mount to them vs. the skinny track I
am using.
