Hi Fellow Potter-ers,

We just bought a Lowrance Global Map 100 for $299 at REI. Usual price is
$450. This is a super deal!!! If I were you, I wouldn't wait too long to
order one, we got the last one at the REI in Concord, CA store. They sold out
within an hour of opening this morning. I found out about the sale last night
on the Internet NewsGroup for marine electronics.

In my humble opinion, this is the best deal for a GPS with uploadable maps for
under $500, and just incredible for under $300. I have been keeping up with
the GPS product reviews on the Internet for several months now and this is a
winner.

It is a chartplotter - which means that you see yourself positioned in the
middle of a map. It also comes with a CD that allows you to upload maps and
comes complete with a Database of Navigational Aids and Obstructions. It's a
handheld unit, about the size of a cell phone, and has a very nice high
resolution screen (better than the Garmin 12s) but it's smaller than the
bracket mounted units.

If you get a program like OziExplorer (the most highly regarded shareware for
about $50), you can scan your own charts and upload them also. (I don't know
a lot about Ozi, just that it's considered one of the best for scanning your
own maps and they just released a new version which uses many, but not all, of
the capabilities of the GM100)
