Here's a variation on that theme: I go gunkholing along the banks of the
Tennessee River in my P19 occaisionally. I place two lines that I have put
eye splices in over the end of the tiller and lead each line aft around the
stern cleats and then forward along the deck so I can steer while sitting on
the bow. I set the motor on a very slow bell and have another line to the
motor shutoff for emergency stops. Don't know if you bluewater sailors
could put this idea to use, but it works really well for this brownwater
sailor.
