<< Hi
We are outfitting our newly acquired HMS 18 (#42).
It is equipped with a backstay with a short cable and snap hook attached
that serves as a topping lift of sorts.
Have you other HMS 18/P 19 owners found this arrangement ok, or have you
installed running topping lifts - and if so - how?
Thanks,

Ron & Mona,

I have the same arrangement and installed a running topping lift. I simply
installed a cheek block at the top of the mast (there was an 'extra' cleat
already installed at the base) and ran braded polyester line (1/4 ", I think).
I rarely use the cable arrangement unless I want something fast that holds the
boom fairly central, I think the cable-lift could be messy if you had the main
up and it was for some reason attatched, like you just raised the main and
hadn't detatched it yet and a wind gust caught you broadside. For the same
reason I make sure my sheets are free-running when I hoist the sail.
