If it will tow it at highway speeds without motor overheating, you can solve
transmission heating by adding an aftermarket transmission cooler. If tail is
too low you can add air shocks to rear. Replace standard turn signal flasher
with a heavy duty electronic one available at auto supply stores for $5.00 and
easy to replace.

Towing packages consist of a radiator with a built in transm cooler, a higher
rated turn signal blinker, trailer wiring hooked in and a motor oil cooler.
Few include stiffer springs or shocks. I have the towing package on my Astro
4.3L Van and that's all it includes except for hitch.

BTW: GM recommends automatic transmission for towing. Torque converter is
infinitely variable (variable gear speeds) and provides more torque to wheels
than a standard tranny.

A good source of data is Trailer Boat Magazine. They have a monthly section
on towing and towing problems.

Hi Rye,
I trailered my P-19, Nightingale, behind a Legacy wagon with the 2.2 Liter
engine, for an eight hour trip to New Hampshire. I loaded most of the gear
into the back of the wagon except for the engine and portapotty. The
automatic trans seemed to suffer from overheating, so I stopped every hour
to cool it down and changed the fluid before I returned. I had no problems
braking, and the engine had adequate power for the task. We averaged 14 mpg.
However, I now tow the Nightingale with my Audi Quattro wagon with a manual
transmission. I just don't trust a slush box (automatic).
