I have a plain new 100 depth finder. Does it use the same transducer as
the Wide 100 you plan on blasting to smitherines with a big hunk of lead???
If so, I may be interested in taking it off you hands for the right price as
my transducer is epoxy mounted inside away from the motor. That shouldn't
give me the same unreliable results, if I understand Eric's note correctly
that is.
Now that I think of it though, I had problems with the original depth finder
as I motored around last month in Alamitos bay. I.e., it just quit. IM
swapped it out, but perhaps it was the motor interaction your referring to?
I won't be able to prove that till the ice goes out here, about a hundred
years from now based on how the weather looks, and how I feel, today.

A transom mount is a transducer that attaches to your transom usually with
screws at the bottom so the transducer rides just below the hull.
Reguarding the Hummingbird wide 100,,,, I have one on Sea Dove, It soon will
be comming off and will make a Dandy target for practice with one of my
flintlock muzzleloaders. It works fine under sail but it tells terrible
lies or just quits when the moter runs. I have tried RF filters and other
remedies without sucess. It knows when you need it most and then messes
with you!!
I have been giving thought to one of the Fishfinder-Depth
finder-GPS-MapPlotter units made by Garmin although I'm apprehensive about
having everything in one box in case of a failure. It would however
clean -up the cockpit and simplifiy things.
