Dudes,

What do you think about my motoring 2/3 of the way from San Diego to
Catalina with a Nissan 3.5? The Capri is roughly the same displacement
as the P-19. We only have wind in the afternoon, so the rest is
motoring, anyway. Chula Vista Marina is about 100 nm from the Isthmus.
I'm
trying to figure how to do it in one day.

There is no anchoring or mooring in Oceanside, only guest slips, with a
reservation required. Also with prevailing westerly winds, it's a beat,
with tacking, from Oceanside, so I might not save anything by going
there to overnight. From San Diego to Catalina, it is usually a beat or
reach without
tacking. With all that tacking Oceanside might be about the same
distance as San Diego from Catalina.

Or, I could sail in one day to Oceanside, and motor the next day to
Calalina.
I know from tent trailering that too much in one day leaves one in
misery, not having fun.

Those of you who have done it, or something comparable, what is your
advice?

:)
