Perhaps it has already been mentioned. The ideal situation is to have the
metal go through a hot dip galvanized process. It is a process of metal being
dipped into a tank that is over 800 degrees. A good dip will result in a 1/16
thickness. If you wish, it can be redipped to get a thicker coat. The company
will have a minium charge if it is under a certain weight and charges by the
pound. Very simple, look in the yellow pages and if you are lucky, there may
be a company close by. Otherwise you will have to ship your item. It is
important to check after the process that the item received a complete coat.
Some companies can be sloppy in their work. Most companies that deal in steel
have a place to have their metal galvanized.

Spray on galvanize does not hold up.
