Jim, Raising the mast on a P.19 can be a little awkward at times. The raising
system works OK, but you can get by without the gin pole. I feel the most
important part of the system are the baby stays. These keep the mast from
tipping sideways while raising it. I added these to my Potter after the mast
fell over and broke my mast support in half. I also leave these connected
while sailing. I hope your boat includes optional backstay, I strongly
recomend it!
This summer we plan to take our Potter to Klamath Lake in Oregon. The lake
is 25 miles long with good winds. At the end of the lake there is a Lodge
where you can get a slip for the Potter and rent a canoe and explore the
wilderness. If you have sailed this lake, please let us know.
