I was checking outthe Potter specs
and it said that the forestay measured
216"
When I measured my forestay
it was 228"
my boat is an 1988 P-19
how can there be such a difference??

Hi George,

Lots of ways.... do you have the short rig (mast about 16 feet long or so) or
the tall rig (mast typically about 22 feet, but mine is 21.5 feet)

Your mast may not be 22 feet exactly and your forestay may not be attached in
the same place as the boat referred to in the specification. The tangs and
chain plate that attach the forestay may be shorter or longer. Finally, did
you measure from pin to pin on the forestay or did you include the length of
the tang or chainplate?

What's important is that your helm balances and your forestay is tight enough
to keep your jib luff from curving too much.
