John, Sail slugs hold the sail to the mast, but the big advavtage is you
can drop the sail in a hurry without getting a cockpit full of sail. When you
order a new boat this is called a capture system. The stock Potters have a
bolt rope instead of slugs. I have slugs on my 19, but not on my 15. If you
don't order your boat with this option, you will most likely add thgem on in
the future.
Yes, a stock P.19 (with a backstay) can safely sail S.F. Bay. If you do
come down here let us know , It's better to sail the Bay with experienced
people first.
