Hi Ed, I bought my Potter 14 back in 1974, it has been sailed hard and
often all these years. She has held up very well with only a few minor
problems. The new little Potters are really nice boats, they are well finished
and sail well. If you look in the Sailboat buyers guide you will find out that
both Potter models are true bargains. Thats why I own both models! When I
first got my little Potter I could walk all over the foredeck and it wouldn't
flex. Now after 25 years I find the deck has a little flex to it, it must be
the aging fiberglass and not my extra 40 pounds. The new Potter 15's are
really 14 feet long with a outboard bracket. However in 1975 the cockpit and
sailplan were changed for the better. The new cockpit is wider and very
comfortable. The standing rigging on the new boats has been beefed up from
3/32 to 1/8 inch.
My little Potter is very fast, if you can make a Potter sail fast you
can make anything sail fast. The big secret is ballance, and sail trim. Keep
the weight foreward and your motor light or better yet leave it home. The
stock hardware works fine but you really need a boom vang on the P.15 to make
the new mainsail do it's job. All my children grew up with the little Potter,
and soon my grandchildren will be sailing her. Never in my life have I gotten
my moneys worth, like I did with this little boat.
