Many years ago I was sailing my new Potter 14 Breezy in San Francisco Bay.
Finally I was in the boat of my dreams, even though I was making payments on
her. It had been nine years since I saw my first Potter, but the wait was
worth it. I was sailing off saucilito Ca. and as I sailed past a beautiful 32
footer heard some moron on board lell out " Hey, look at that little piece of
crap!" To wich I responded, I bet you can't catch me! I trimmed the sails and
headed upwind, the big boat came about and the chase was on. Now my little
Potter is very fast for it's size, but there's no way I could outrun a 32
footer. We were heading into Richardson Bay, and it just so happens that a
quarter mile ahead is a spot that goes from sixteen feet to two feet deep in a
heartbeat. As I approached (the spot) I raised the center board about half way
up so the big boat wouldn't have a clue. then I popped open a cold beer and
waited for the fun to begin. When the big boat ran aground there was lots of
crashing noise and yelling. I just kept on sailing and drinking my beer. This
sailing life is really great!
