Hi everyone.
I've been listening to all the talk lately about costs associated
with our boats, go fast techniques, and so on. "Penny Pinching"
definitely describes my yachting category. I also noticed that holding
the jib sheet ( I only have the standard jib) next to the hand rails
improved my up wind performance. I use a loop of braided line (about a
foot) and a stainless carabiner to make my po' mans' sail track. When
going upwind, I'll loop the rope under my hand rail and pull the
carabiner through the loop. Then I'll pull the jib sheet in and pop it
in the carabiner. Adjustment after this is a little more difficult, but
the upwind performance is improved. The placement can be altered by
moving the loop back-and-forth in the slot of the handrail, or to a
different slot. The rear most slot seems to be the best location for my
jib.
Just for your information, my hand rails are through bolted and
backed by a 2 inch wide 1/8 inch thick aluminum plate that runs the
length of the hand rail, and fender washers over that.. The plate was
laminated with teak trim before installation so it looks good inside.
The hand rails don't budge for anything. Also, I normally run my jib
sheets inside the shrouds. I don't use the po' mans' sail track all the
time. Only when the go faster, tweak this and that bug hits.
Side note for Judy. I also paid $2500 for my P-19 and it leaked
like a sieve. It's much better now.

See ya on the water. My boat will be the dingy one with the flaking
green bottom paint (previous owner).
