In the last club I belonged to, we had a "fun" race that included one leg
that you had to sail backwards. As it was (almost) down wind, it wasn't all
that hard to do once you got the hang of it.

I have also seen Jerry sail his boats backwards to clear the dock.

I think, one of the pieces of special equipment that is required before you
can attempt such a feat is an "empty" six pack of beer.
