As usual , Judy has come up with more really useful information. When I
got my short rig 19 it came with a main sail for a WWP15 (which I have
since sold) and a puny little jib which I thought also belonged with a
WWP 15. I checked the measurements and it matches the dimensions Judy
posted exactly. It really is a "puny" sail and looks quite silly on my
short rig --- but then I am a fair weather sailor and really like big
sails. For those of you who can't visualize how small that sail really
is, I have posted a series of photos at
www.vais.net/~ryeg/JibComp.jpg (31KB). It also shows a Thistle jib ($85
at Bacon) which I have since exchanged for an even nicer North sail that
probably qualifies as a 110 Genoa. I suspect that the little jib would
look a bit better on the tall rig for which it was designed -- but then
the short rig is not "fractional" so I suspect that the fortriangle is
about the same size as on the tall rig (maximum luff of about 17' 6" on
my boat).

By the way, I just bought a poleless (sp) or cruising spinnaker at Bacon
and will post some pictures of it as soon as I can find the time and
weather to hang it up. It might answer some questions that have been
going around the list on the subject. If I keep hanging sails on the
boat in the driveway the neighbors are gonna expect/wish me to sail
away down Grace street.

I wanted to apologize to the WWP 15 guys for taking up so much list
space. I think that there are a bunch of us folks who are currently
rebuilding 19s who are exchanging a lot of ideas. Once we get out on
the water things will probably even out again. When I first came to the
list in October there didn't seem to be much 19 activity --now the
tables have turned a bit, but I suspect it's cyclic. I find that for
every question I ask there are many useful replies, but it does fill the
list. It's like planting seeds --- maybe the WWP15 guys should start
sowing a few more seeds and get their "share" of this exceptionally
friendly and useful list. I learn a lot from the 15 postings too ---
and since I can speak knowledgeably on any subject at the drop of a hat
-- maybe I can contribute there too. grin....
