Rye
(because he has a short rig and is considering sail
slugs),

Washed and mended my main-sail. Davis sailbath took out
the dirt and the rust dust. Only the rust SPOTS remain.
Previously owner left sail sitting up against rusty anchor
chain. Actually they aren't rust SPOTS, the material has
actually changed and "IT will never come out", but it
doesn't look bad. Had one little tear and got out my
"Sails" by Jeremy Howard-Williams ($5.00 at the used book
store) and figured out the proper stitch. Looks good.

Then started spacing the sail slugs. Of course, being a
SHORT RIG my sail is shorter in the luff and longer in
the foot. None of the recommended placements apply. I am
temporarily placing them and will raise the mast (maybe
Sunday or Monday afternoon) and try them out before I
actually attach them. Want to see the effect on the
"long" batten and the reef points before I "screw" them.

What I am planning measured from the bottom:

Spacing:
1- 6" up (just on boltrope)
2- 8 1/2" (below long batten)
3- 8 1/2" (above long batten)
4- 21"
5- 21"
6- 21"
7- 21"
8- 21"
9- 21"
10- 21" (5" below head-just below tri-angular
reinforcement)

Rye, will let you know how it works out.

Anyone with comments or ideas speak up!
