I am looking for all the information on the Potter 19 I can find. I am
especially interested in how the boat handles in heavy weather, sail
controls, single handed operations, and if everyone is satisfied with
their boats. I am interested in purchasing one in the future to replace
my O'day daysailer. I would like something that I can spend the weekend
on and still be able to tow it easily. So far everything that I am
looking for is found in the Potter 19. Thank you.

I have a 1998 P19 acquired new from factory. It came with a few problems but
were taken care of by factory.

I trailer my P19 on an Ez Loader powerboat bunk trailer from my 20' powerboat.
When I say I trailer, I mean 400 miles to FL West Coast. It launches and
hauls out onto trailer easier than a powerboat. I dip trailer bunks until fwd
end is just awash and then power onto trailer with 8" of keel sticking out
bottom. Potter 19 hauls behind my 4.3L Van as if it were not back there at
all. The Potter weighs in at 2000# incl my trlr. I keep my P19 docked in back
of house in the water. We trailered our 20' powerboat, weighing in at 4000#
incl trlr, to all the lakes between Georgia and So Carolina one summer. Towing
those 4000# makes quite a difference on way van behaves and how you tow. You
have to allow 6 car lengths minimum when towing that load... I would not like
to have to tow a Catalina 22 or other large 2500# dry (4000# wet) boat all
over the country...

The lil sailboat is comfortable for two to sail, sails upright with minimum
heel and kinda grows on you. She is one cute lil boat... I sail ocean once a
month. Usually blows about 25...

I would not plan to stay on vessel for extended periods (3+ days) with more
than 2 persons aboard unless others were children...

I recommend (IMHO) you get IM's special packages with genoa gear (ask for 30"
long genoa track on each side adding extra inches to fwd end of track),
mainsail jiffy reefing, CDI furler, MAST RAISING SYSTEM, and a 5HP Nissan 4
stroker. If you get CDI, get Lapper sail (jib is tiny) - ask them not to
install jib blocks only genoa blocks. The jib blocks are useless and get in
way. Make sure you get electrical installed by IM (running lights/cabin
lights/masthead light) as it is a pain to do so by yourself. Ask them to
install battery in center under fwd bunk, cut a hatch above it and run wires
to it. Do not let them install battery inside side cabinet.

We are planning to drag our Potter up East Coast and sail in a few places on
way to Cape Cod this summer. We will camp in it on land or at marina a few
times but not longer than 2 nights in a row. Our Y2K trek will be to
California to visit my daughter and maybe sail Long Beach, Santa Monica, Santa
Barbara, SF bay and Lake Tahoe... Assuming my right shoulder/arm allows and
does not make me think I'm having a heart attack again...
