Hi gang!

Just wanted to let you know that Tetra and I got some genuine salt water in
our teeth! After being winter bound here in the Rockies for too long I hooked
her up to the Jeep and drove over a thousand miles to go sailing. After
adventures sightseeing on the way down (camped in boat) I found myself a guest
slip at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and sailed my brains out every day
while once again living aboard at night. The wind conditions reminded me of
some old postings. It would be glass calm until around ten or eleven at which
point thw wind would start howling. I cruised through Shelter Island one day
and drooled over the mega yachts. Dodging aircraft carriers, freighters, and
flotillas of tourist barges is sure a lot more exciting than what we get on
the local reservoir here. Boy, those ship wakes can really bounce the old
Potter! Steve, what was that bizarre vessel I saw (it stole my wind) called
"Sea Shadow"? I won't even try to describe it. Looked like something out of
Star Wars! One day I went as far south as possible. Got down there by Chula
Vista Marina when I discovered that the centerboard had hit bottom. Still a
long way to the south end of the bay, but ran out of depth. I absolutely
loved sailing through the "derelict fleet" on the way back. It is just south
of the naval base at 32nd street on the east side of the harbor. Lots of very
colorful and very trashed vessels (including one that was sunk and only had
the mast showing). I saw what looked like a two story fort afloat. I think
it was a house boat (abandoned). This adventure was such balm for the winter
weary sailing soul! Wind conditions were so much fun and more consistent than
what we get here in Colorado. I left Tetra and the Jeep in LA where they are
awaiting my return at the end of April for further adventures. Hope to catch
the Bay gang for their April soiree. Hope all of you guys are getting ready
to launch!!!!!
