That's what I did. My 'jin pole' is a shapped 2X4, the mast end of my which
is cut to the mast's cross section ( a U-shape) and to which I attatched
nylon web strap which goes around the mast and pulls securely with a nylon
buckle. I can put this anywhre along the mast, the closer to the base the
better it seems to work.
