Where to Put The Motor While Trailering

I've been leaving my 3.5 hp Nissan outboard in place on Wind Lass while
trailering to my local launch ramp (2 mile drive). As I read various
messages here, it sounds as if many Potterers detach the outboard while
trailering. Is this correct? Are there some strong reasons to not keep the
outboard in place while trailering?
