The montgomery 17 and the Potter 19 are two of the finest trailerable
family cruisers money can buy. They both sail well and are very seaworthy.
The Montgomery has a classic lapstrake hull and a real salty look. This boat
has a shoal draft keel with a centerboard, it works well but the boat is not
beachable.
The Potter sails well, and has a traditional look. But she has a hard
chined hull that makes her very stable. The potter heels MUCH less than other
boats and is beachable. I think the one thing that really puts the potter
ahead of the competition is roominess. This boat has lots and lots of storage
space, and it's really comfortable. I don't know how the montgomery would do
on S.F. Bay,(I've never seen one out there) But the Potter feels right at
home on the Bay. Jerry Barrilleaux
