Hi Jack, I have been sailing my little potter in S.F.Bay for 25 years and
have never once came close to capsizing. I also sail a big Potter, and it's
even more seaworthy than the little one. A couple of months ago, a Catalina
32 went turtle just outside the Gate. She stayed floating upside down and the
crew had to be rescued. I have only seen one P.15 capsize, and it was a clear
case of sailor error. Almost any boat can capsize if enough mistakes are
made. On my P.15, I loop a bungee cord around the centerboard to keep it from
foldind up in the event of a capsize. This also helps it give a little in
case it should hit an underwater object. There is no substitute for an
experienced sailor, but to get this experience we all have to make some
mistakes.
