About corks in the cockpit drain, have you ever heard of a corkscrew. Actually
I use corks from a bottle of Remy Martin myself; they have that rim which makes
it very easy to pull. If you don't want to spring for the R/M although it is
well worth it you can use corks from Sandeman Port.
I had a leak in the cockpit drain tube so I used to put in a cork at both ends
(this gave me a chance for another bottle of R/M) but I always kept a long thin
stick of dowel wood to pop the cork in (or before) an emergency. I would make
sure that cockpit drain is open if there is a chance of getting swamped.
