On the newer P-19s, The hole is in the keel but not through the housing. I
hope that no one is tempted and drill out the housing as IMHO that is just
inviting trouble. I don't know how the older "Big" Potters fair, but I have
seen how much force the keel can exert when it unexpectedly comes in contact
with an underwater object. I replaced the factory "clamp" system with
bungies after breaking one of the clamps when the keel came in contact with
a submerged rock. That was after knocking them off about three times on the
Tomales mud flats.
