My sister has an S2 with a keel/steel centerboard that uses cable and
a winch to raise it. Every time they raise the board, the cable and winch
protests loudly. It had done this since day 1 some 21 years ago, and they
have never had to replace the cable. The noise in their case is caused
when the cable slips off prior coils and finds a "comfortable" position. The
sound is transmitted (and even magnified) by the fiberglass hull.
