I am having trouble with the stays when I try to furl my mainsail to the
boom. Does one have to remove the stays from the sail do a good job of
furling or am I just getting impatient. I have a 19' short rig, so
maybe it is a unique problem, but I always wind up with one or two stays
poking out in odd directions.

Was out on the Potomac, which is the approach to Washington DC National
airport, yesterday. The NATO ministers are all coming to DC over the
weekend, security is high, and the river was swarming with helicopters
looking for terrorists with stinger missiles. I had a big army
helicopter stop, hover, and check me out to make sure I had two eyebrows
--- terrorists tend to have only one big bushy eyebrow across their
entire forehead. He quickly waved and flew away when he saw I was just
a doddering old fart trying to sail with no wind.
